Hey guys, happy Monday! For me it definitely feels more of Friday as I was discussing with a friend of mine. Although I wish it was Friday, which means my third day in LA, it is Monday and I have a makeup "oops" to start the week off splendidly.
This "oops" happens to me all the time, unfortunately. I actually don't even know how it happens.
The suspense must be killing you. Well, somehow I always manage to get foundation on different parts of my hair. I can justify the foundation near my hair lines on both of my sides. But, what I can't explain is the hair in my side bangs and a patch on the top of my head.
My friend pointed it out before we left to go out to dinner but what's embarrassing is I didn't have enough time to fix.
All I can say is that's my makeup "oops" for the day!
XOXO

Mothers Knows Best - Tip 4
Another day, another tip that my mom has passed down to me. This one is specific to makeup. My mom has been passing this tip down to me for so many years now, I have to say I haven't really been responsive with this one. What is it? You ask. Well, I won't torture you guys anymore. Here's the tip of the day.
Tip 4
Applying makeup tip. My mom has said when applying makeup don't cover your whole face with foundation. Simply, take a brush and apply the foundation only to your blemishes. She uses the analogy of when dying your grey hairs, she wouldn't dye her whole hair black to look like shoe polish. She would only dye the grey hairs. With the face, try and only cover the blemishes and allow as much as your natural color through. She calls me a "ghost" when my makeup is covered with foundation.
I have to convince I don't do this tip, I am too self conscious of my flaws. Are you brave enough?

Mother Knows Best - Tip 3
I am baack! While watch Law and Order: Special Victim Units (one of my favorite criminal shows on television at the moment), a couple more of my mom's advice came into my head. Weird moment for it to happen, but hey, can't control when the creative inspirations happen. I am bambling but let's get this show on the road.
Tip 3
Combing tips. One of the tips my mom has been trying to embed in my head for A LONG time is how I should comb my hair when coming out of a shower. Her advice is with a wide tooth comb, start at the bottom when combing and move your way upwards. The problem when doing it the other way is you are pulling your hair while combing. This can lead to breakage of hair and even hair falling out. I have started doing this because I am tired of finding my hair all over the apartment. I like leaving an impression but not that way.
More tips to come, I am sure!

Mothers Know Best - Tip 2
We meet again! After writing the first post, some advice my mother has given to me just kept coming into my head. Even tonight my mom was providing some of her advice to me about god-knows-what. Boy, my mom would be in heaven if she knew about this part of the blog.
Tip 2
Wash your face when you get home. This again, is a very simple tip but it can be ignored. When you come home from school, hanging with friends, going out, etc. it is easy to get sidetracked doing something else BUT remove your makeup and wash your face before anything. This is important because while you are just laying around at home, your skin could be free of all the scam and dirt that you have acquired during the day. This is my mom's number 1 tip when trying to solve the problem of acne and blackheads.
Any tips you have received from your mothers?

Mother Knows Best
Mothers are always right whether we, daughters, like it or not. This section is going to reveal some advice my mother has given me throughout the years. Shhh...don't tell her, she might actually think I pay attention when she tells me stuff.
Tip 1
Wash your face before you shower! I know this sounds incredibly simple and some of you might having a "duh" moment but some people forget to do it. I have been guilty of that. Why is this important? Well, when you take a shower the hot water opens your pores and while you are showering all the dirt from your face and makeup enters your pores. In turn it does more harm than good. Clogging pores is not good. Take a few minutes to wash your face and then, in the shower do some exfoliate in the shower.
Tip for the day! Mothers know best.

Ask Cassie - Question Asked, I Answer
Favorite haircare and makeup products? x
Dear Hey Vintage,
Thank you for asking this question and for being my first Q&A person. Wow, favorite haircare and makeup products; how long do you have? (hehe). Let's talk makeup first. My favorite makeup products are: The Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer, the word "perfection" is a simply sum up of this product. It lasts such a long time, I have had it for at least 6 months and it retails at £4.19. It's not that much for a long lasting, excellent quality product. Also, I can't live without my lip glosses some of my favorite brands are Bobbi Brown. I love my Bobbi Brown. My final favorite product is my eyeliner collection. My two favorite brands are 17 and Barry M. Although, Barry M's purple eyeliner it was to faint for my eye and skin color.
I would like to mention two products that I have just recently discovered have changed my hair world. It's unreal. One of them is Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil, this has been amazing for my dry ends. I just rub LITERALLY a dab and rub into your ends when your hair is damp. Over a period of time it should make your ends silky and shiny.
To end this on a high note, the best experience I have had with hair products is Origins Conditioning Hair Oil. This was my first experience with hair oil and it was an amazing first impression (review to come soon).

Easy Peasy, Lemon Squeezey
I have been searching high and low for a natural look. I have done my own personal investigation - gazing at multiple Google pages, asking friends and even Youtube. Now, although I have a log of great "go-to" natural makeup looks, I needed to find the one for me. Something I was told by a friend is "it's all about trial and error". This how-to guide is going to be a step-by-step guide on how to create the completed look (pictured below) and all these products are cheap. So, this is targeted to create a look without breaking the bank.
STEP 1 - Wash your face; a clean, fresh face is VERY important!
Completed Look
Buckle up kids, we are going for the ride of your life!!!
Products Used For The Look |
STEP 2 - Moisturize (go to moisturizer is Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion)
With those 2 steps completed, we can move onto to my favorite part - applying the makeup
STEP 3 - Apply your foundation with a brush but I would also advise to blend it in with your fingers as well (primarily around your nostrils)
STEP 4 - Brush pressing powder all around your face and even the neck. TIP: a cool tip I learnt recently is when applying the powder or foundation, you should start at the center and work outwards.
Natural Collection Press Powder |
(A blush brush can be used or if you want a seperate brush, SuperDrug's Powder Brush is excellent and it's UNDER ₤5. What could be better?)
STEP 5 - Blush it up! Put a little blush on your cheeks. My best method is smiling and dab a little blush on it.
STEP 6 - All about the eyes...to make your eyes vibrate put a tiny (literally a dab) on your eyelid and blend it on your eyelid. I would also put it underneath your eyes.
STEP 7 - To make your eyes to pop put on some mascara. I would put two coats.
Maybelline Great Lash Mascara |
STEP 8 - Eyeliner is your friend. I swear by 17 Perfect Definition Eye Liner (Emerald Green) it gives your eyes a pop of color. Apply to only the bottom lash line.
17 Perfect Definition Eye Liner |
STEP 9 - To complete the look, pick a clear lip gloss and apply it. Any lip gloss with no color is fine, my go-to one is Makeup Academy one. Their products are ALL ₤1, amazing deal!
I know all these steps look a lot but it isn't! It takes approximately 5 - 10 mins for this look. Go try and see!

All About Sam - Part 1 - Formal
In my first interviewing portion of the blog, I chose my friend Sam to interview via BBM. Technology definitely makes interviewing fun and creative. I admire Sam's tastes in clothes, her makeup and hair decisions. I was happy to have a chance to pick her brain. Luckily, no technical problems accorded or we would have been in real trouble.
Continue reading to see what answers Sam gave to my burning questions, how the first buzz round went and also, she talks about her new blog! Let's take a gander.
Continue reading to see what answers Sam gave to my burning questions, how the first buzz round went and also, she talks about her new blog! Let's take a gander.
Cassie: Hey Sam, thanks for partaking in this 20 Random Questions for my blog.
Sam: No problem!
C: Now tonight in America is the end of one of our favorite shows, Pretty Little Liars. What have you thought about the season?
S: It’s been so, so good! Each episode leaves you wanting more. Plus the fashion and makeup is amazing.
C: I’m glad you brought up the fashion and makeup *laughs*. Who’s your favorite and why?
S: Ahh, this is difficult. Each character is different. My favorite would have to be Hanna then Aria. Hanna has the best wardrobe and she is so blunt/sarcastic and funny.
C: Aria was rocking those feather earrings, a trend that has been seen throughout the magazines and on celebrities. What is your “must” item right now?
S: Those earrings were gorgeous. I don’t love anything at the moment but I always have good fitting pair of skinnies in my closest.
C: Before we move on from PLL, one cannot forget the eye candy on the show, Team Ezra *laughs*. Any predictions for the show?
S: Team Toby right here! I really wanted Toby and Emily but I guess that won’t be happening. Also, I don’t think Ezra and Aria will be exposed just yet.
C: The suspense of this show is incredible. Now, let’s talk clothes, what are your essentials in your closest? Besides skinnies.
S: I love loose, flowly chiffon tops. They are flattering on everyone. I also love scarves.
C: How about a girl’s best friend, handbags?
S: Of course! I love big handbags. They make an outfit.
C: *Laughs*, definitely! Are there any handbags that you’ve seen recently that you are dying over?
S: I always have my eye on handbags, I want ‘em all.
C: You have a great love for fashion, where does it come from? Who is your style icon/role model?
S: This is may be a weird one but I love Nicole Richie’s style. So effortless and she’s perfected bohemian chic. I also really like Lauren Conrad’s.
WHAT DOES SAM EXPOSE IN THE BUZZ ROUND? STAY TUNED!
XOXO

Here Comes The Sun!
Well...it was a long and tough winter here in London. We went through horrendous and hazardous Christmas with extreme snowing conditions. Talk about your Ultimate Christmas Present (a little pun for those Disney Channel Original Movies fans). Even into the New Year, we went from cold to rainy to the sun making a few appearances here and there.
BUT
"Patience is a virtue"
We have finally mad into the beautiful, long awaited first day of Spring. I didn't think we would make it but alas, as usual I was proven wrong. To celebrate this great day, I am going to do a step step guide on a springy/summery look!
Strap in your seat belts, we are going on a ride!
Step 1 - wash your hair, this look is primarily accomplished by having wet hair to begin with!
Step 2 - Comb it
Step 3 - When all combed out, take a portion in your hand and squish it upwards (do it all around your hair)....tip: the longer you hold it for, the curly it will be.
Step 4 - when your hair is nearly dry. Take a good portion of your bangs or a shorter portion of your hair in front (you can either straighten or keep it natural) and comb it to the side, right or left doesn't matter.
Step 5 - bobby-pin it, I would use three, criss-crossing them.

Lip Tip
My "it" product of the day is Nivea Lip Care: Pearl and Shine (pictured below)
Although I am not a big lip balm or chap stick fan (more of a lipstick or lip gloss kinda of gal), this product I couldn't live without. If your lips are getting chapped from wearing lipstick or simply dry, this should do the trick. Alternatively, what I have been using it lately for is a "lip primer".
Right about now, you might be thinking "a lip primer, really?" But you read right. Just like an eye primer or face primer, it makes whatever lip look you are going for more vibrate. I have found that it helps keep the lipstick (not so much lip gloss) looking refreshed for longer. I am beginning to sound like an advertiser for a product on TV.
It looks small but it has lasted me over a year and unlike other products, you can find almost anywhere you go - online, in the major beauty stores like Boots.
Don't believe me, try it for yourself!!

Start Spreading the News
A blog worth payin' attention too: Hey Vintage!
Although this blog has just recently begun, it has me wanting more. More fashion, more writing...just more. In the words of Britney Spears, "Gimme More". What makes this blog the one to watch (along with mine)? Let's de-construct, shall we.
Before diving into the blog posts of "Hey Vintage", let's talk layout. Now, a lot of blogs you see it's quite busy with lots of colors and pictures in the background (guiltyville, population: ME) but sometimes less is more. I don't know if she did it on purpose but whatever she is doing, she should continue. The faded grey title contrasts with the paler background color. This tiny little detail is really unnoticeable to the naked the eye but boy, does it make the eyes happy. There's nothing like a blog that is easy on the eyes because it makes it that more enjoyable to read. Your eyes feel relaxed and not feeling the need to work.
Take a picture
Something my eyes noticed well glazing over her page again was how the title picks up the colors, such as the greys and whites in the outfit worn by the model pictured in the heading. Even the the light pink accents some of the brighter colors. The continuous use of the same colors keep the fluidity of the page.
NOW, the writing
Ah, my favorite part of any blog or article, the writing. It makes my heart skip a beat. Alright, maybe not as Romeo and Juliet as that but you get my point.
Her first blog post, the introduction to the blog, was simple yet informative and direct. The beginning "Hello There" makes me feel like she is greeting an old friend or a new acquaintance.
Her first REAL post was perfection in my eyes. Giving a sneak peak into her makeup bag is every little girl's dream. Believe me, I have spent many a days looking through my mom's makeup bag. But anywho, having a detailed description of each product gives the reader an honest depiction of how it worked for her. Also, what I loved was she gave both the good and bad for some products; held nothing back! Her tone and language showed maturity and friendliness. It makes you want to grab a coffee with her and simple talk makeup for HOURS.
She knows her stuff and for that I applaud her! Bravo or should I say, Brava!
Her ending paragraph with the question "What are some of your favorite everyday products?" brings a friend relationship with the reader. How refreshing!
Who knew Vintage could be so modern and sassy?

Week 1
I am sure you all wondering, who inspired her hair obsession?! How did this all come to be?! Well, if you aren't, I'm going to answer these two burning questions anyway for you.
She has been my hair icon and role model since I first began watching Ghost Whisperer many, many seasons ago. Speaking of, it just so happens as I write this blog, I am watching her show. This gives me ample opportunity to discuss her hair with first hand observation.
But before I do so, here's a little Jennifer Love Hewitt 101 for those we are unaware of who she is (people who have been living under a rock for the past decade or so). A quick wrap up of her career: Melinda Gordon on Ghost Whisperers, Sarah Reeves on Party of Five, movies, 2 CDs and a producing career under her belt.
Now...let's talk hair!!!
While the press and celebrity blogs were scrutinizing her weight gain or loss and her personal life. I was obsessing what color she had recently dyed her or what style she trying this week. A friend of mine pointed out throughout the seasons of Ghost Whisperer did she really experiment with her hair. However, although, she found a look that worked (which is hard enough in itself), in between she tried multiple hairstyles.
A couple of my favorite hairstyles, which have I have tried to reproduce on several occasions, I am going to list for you all. Some of these are from the episodes of Ghost Whisperer, which I am currently watching. A way we go:
(1) This look can be seen on Ghost Whisperer:
- creat a low ponytail
- add some height at the top (this can easily be done by using a "picks comb" OR "fine tooth tail comb"), just stick the end of the comb where you want to add volume and gently pull the comb upwards. Distribute the volume in that section.
- To create the wispy swift side bang look - straighten a good portion of the shortest lengthen hair in the front to the side.
- A little hair spray to keep everything in place and TA DA.
(2) Also seen on Ghost Whisperer. Quite a casual look for relaxing at home or going out for some coffee or even a "chill day":
- Create a low, somewhat messy bun
- The same bang look in the previous hair look (picture below)
- A touch of hairspray and you're done!!
I leave you with a picture show of Jennifer Love Hewitt's hairstyles throughout the years!!

All About the Hair!!!
Hey my name is Cassie; I'm obsessed with hair!
Now before you judge me, we all have our quirky obsessions: makeup, collecting stamps, shoes, handbags and for guys, Xbox. I have spent a quite deal of money trying new products or styles or just getting a simple cut. BUT my obsession for the most part is simply a healthy, observing from a far. Researching, asking friends, personal trial and error.
With the wonder of the internet researching tutorials on my favorite sites, Youtube, has become an addiction.
Enjoy! This blog is going to grow to extreme lengths!
